Heroes of the Environment Program Many heroes begin as ordinary people who chose to perform extraordinary feats during crises. Since 2009, WWF-Philippines has actively recognized individuals which have shown decisive environmental action via a programme entitled Heroes of the Environment. Over a dozen awardees have received citations and cash rewards - ranging from an eight-year old Mindoro student who helped save a stranded dolphin, to a pair of Palawan fisherman who stood sentinel over an ailing Dugong, all the way to a Manila-based artist who spearheaded a national campaign to paint over 23,000 dolphins in protest of the recurring dolphin slaughters in Japan. Subsequent awards will be given by WWF to deserving individuals. |
