Sustainable Seaweed Production in Northeast Palawan
WWF-Philippines takes on the challenge of creating sustainable seaweed production in the marine protected areas of Sitio Amogues, Taytay, Palawan with the support of WWF-UK. Palawan is one of the major seaweed producers in the Philippines because of its strategic location with expansive reef areas and coastal shelves, which create an ideal environment for seaweed farming. Seaweed is a dynamic aquaculture commodity that plays a significant role in addressing poverty in coastal communities.
The primary focus of the project is the establishment of a seaweed nursery and the formulation of a business plan as seaweeds are a viable nature-based solution that provides conservation efforts and an enterprise that can attract investors and generate income for the seaweed farmers.
